Rules of a fair test

A fair test would involve: Competition solves would involve: In competitions, solvers are presented with a table which has on it a Stackmat and a Mat (which are both shown below); These are used to time the attempt accurately. The Rubik's cube in which the solver hands in to use will be under a cube cover to conceal the scramble until it is inspection time. The surface also must be flat and level.
